Projects

Northern Tyre Disposals are working with several organisations on a variety of projects. Such as helping Council Road Departments underpin roads going across peat fields; roads that continuously move and previously broke up with regularity. Helping the Forestry Commission lay forest trails over small rivers and boggy areas. Using URRO blocks as the base layer in landfill sites to provide drainage and a stable surface for refuse lorries and bulldozers to drive over.
In December 2002 the first public road in the UK was built using 350 URRO blocks. The stretch between Kinbrace and Syre in Sutherland was particularly challenging as it ran over a peat hollow. Logging traffic had caused the original road to sink a massive 4 feet (1.2m) below ground level. Two layers of blocks were sandwiched between a textile wrap and then covered in a layer of hardcore. The road will be monitored by civil engineers but is expected to recieve a glowing report if results from other projects are anything to go by.
Spey Bay preparation These pictures show URRO blocks being used at the Spey Bay landfill site to make a road over some low lying soft ground used by the refuse trucks. Once covered by a thin layer of aggregate, it is surprising how much weight the URRO blocks can take without deforming. Spey Bay road
